They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead

Give in to this documentary. Step into it and be taken on an amazing ride with surprises heaped on surprises. You don’t have to know– or want to know –anything about Orson Welles to be mesmerized by this film.

Documentaries about exceptional people are usually tidy celebrations of their genius, with their weaknesses carefully injected in for color. “They’ll Love me When I’m Dead” places you into the genius’s tornado of art and fury. Orson Welles worked for 15 years on a movie called “The Other Side of the Wind”. This film captures that project in which Welles creates a story that mirrors his own mission You see the brilliance and the crippling flaws of a man all playing out together and, just like the many people shown who were powerfully drawn in to be part of the project, you are pulled in to watch, fascinated, what might, in the end, be a train wreck or a crowning glory or both.

Watch it and:

  • Experience a wild story within a wild story. It has everything: Genius, falls from grace, triumphs, devotion, betrayals, suspense and yes, celebrities and sex!
  • Feel what you may never otherwise feel: An obsession that drives you to work for many years on a project that only you understand (and that even you are not sure you understand).

Bonus: If you are a frustrated genius, you can pick up tips how to handle it.

Added bonus: You’ll get an enjoyable education on how movie making evolved in the later 20th century.

Made by Netflix. Available on Netflix.
